GALERNA-SÒL

The Espai d'Art Contemporani de Castelló presents the exhibition project "Galerna Sòl", carried out by the artist Jon Cazenave (San Sebastián, 1978) and co-produced with Kutxa Fundazioa. This exhibition presents a selection of the work "Galerna" and the recent series "Sòl", which the artist has produced after his stay in Castelló.
«Galerna» is a photographic project that functions as a sequence of spaces linked to the analysis of memory and origin itself, which unleashes an atavistic, processual, chemical, magical and silent work.
For this exhibition it has been made a selection of works not anchored to a specific landscape, where «Galerna» empties itself of the documentary value to penetrate the sculptural language and originate a rhythm that dances us from full to empty, from material to air, from darkness to light.
"Sòl" stands out for its bifocal approach to the territory, where the human gaze meets the gaze of the machine: a cross in the landscape. Cazenave has found in Castelló a particularly interesting territory to develop this proposal due to the dual nature of the landscape: the mountain and the plain. In this new sequence, Cazenave photographs the mountains from which he obtains Espadà's color palette with yellow, red and blue pigments. Afterwards, he uses the satellite view of orthophotos that reveals a plain dedicated to the tile industry and agricultural exploitation. As a synthesis, he has crossed the two imaginaries with the transported charcoal technique.
