EXHIBITION

SOS

Vicens Vacca (Granollers, 1954) is an artist with a career of more than 35 years experimenting with the incidence of sound as an artistic medium, working on the margins of the conceptual. Descendant of a jazz musicians family, he opts for contemporary art breaking with the tradition. Since his first works, sound is never an additional complement, but a corporeal element with plastic qualities, which is materialized in the space of action as a sculptural object. He places his work between ability and disaster. SOS is a solo exhibition in which four specific pieces are specifically created for the Espai d’Art Contemporani de Castelló and adapted to its space.
The works that form part of the project are: SPEECH: Autonomous acoustic system that generates music based on the sound emitted in front of a microphone, which modulates at the same time the lighting that affects the piece, NHHR: Loop of twenty - one sentences, in three languages, that shows sentences, interrogations, slippages and delays that lead to an answer “No HI Ha Res”, HIMNE: Acoustic tunnel that emits the musical stereophonic confrontation, synchronous and asynchronous, of two well-known national anthems, and SOS: Cyclic emission of the well-known international aid signal. It will be broadcasted from the first floor of the main hall, which will be closed to the public during the exhibition. A variant with different airtime and silence will be broadcasted at the EACC bar.
In the background of the exhibition, it has been edited a publication with a text by Valentín Roma in which Vicens Vacca works is approached.
